The
Friends of Camp El-O-Win's campaign to raise $500,000 to rebuild a 200
foot footbridge across Dinkey Creek is in progress. The bridge will
connect the north and south sides of Camp El-O-Win, allowing access to
the entire 58 acres. Currently, programs are offered
on summer weekends on the south side of the camp, serving 400 girls and
adults. Replacement of the bridge will allow us to once again
offer six week-long resident camp programs to more than 800 girls. The original wooden bridge, shown on the left, was damaged during the winter of 2003 and for two years the camp was closed. The footbridge was eventually removed. In 2005 the camp was re-opened by the Friends of Camp El-O-Win for weekend camping on the south side of Dinkey Creek. The architectual planning and the river bottom survey have been completed. We now are in need of a large amount of money for bridge construction. We have a fund development committee working on grants and corporate sponsorships, but we need everyone's help to get the bridge built. We have raised $62,000 so far for the bridge replacement. |
