The Girls Scouts have held summer camps in the Dinkey Creek area
since 1947, however, it was not until 1958 that they had a camp
they could call their own.
That was the year Robert and Elsie Grimmett gave 58 acres
of land to the Girl Scout Council making it possible for them to build their own
camp.
Robert Grimmett was one of the founders of the Pine Logging
Company. You can read about the history of Pine Logging at
http://www.pinelogging.org/Home While the Pine Logging
Company is no longer operating, the old logging buildings
are being renovated, and they may soon be open to the
public.
The dining hall at Camp El-O-Win was named for Robert and Elsie
Grimmett in 1959. |
