Resident Camp Programs

Resident Camp Programs – Mountain Madness offers 1st – 12th grade campers one week and two week-long experiences independent of their parents. Campers are transported to and from El-O-Win by their parents, but are supervised at camp by a trained college-age (or older) “Camp Staff” at all times. Staff have been background screened and attended a week long on-site training. Most meals are prepared and served family style. Campers prepare some of their own meals in their living unit on Cook’s day off. One fee covers everything.

Campers participate in traditional camp activities such as mountain biking, horseback riding, slingshots, swimming in the creek, hiking, nature exploration, campfires, skits and singing. Archery and canoeing are offered to older campers. Campers choose to participate in activities multiple times throughout the week. All campers participate in “Housekeeping Kapers” to keep their camp functioning and clean.

Program Activities are offered by age group:

  • 1st thru 3rd grade: horseback ride, mountain biking, nature, crafts, slingshots, swimming
  • 4th thru 6th grade: archery, horseback ride, mountain biking, nature, crafts, slingshots, swimming
  • 7th thru 12th grade: canoeing, archery, horseback ride, mountain biking, nature, crafts, slingshots, swimming

Camp El-O-Win
Counselor-in-Training Program

The Counselor-in-Training program is a specialized leadership training course for girls who are interested in becoming camp counselors and going into the 11th or 12th grades. CITs develop the skills necessary to become GREAT camp counselors, lead younger campers through activities and experience other jobs that keep camp running smoothly.  Application and interview required. Look under FORMS on this website to download the application. Girls applying for the CIT Program offered by the Girl Scouts should go the the Council website.

The program provides hands-on experience to girls interested in camp counseling. CITs will: live alongside staff and work with campers in units; spend time working in a support/program area of their choice (Kitchen, Trading Post, Infirmary, Arts & Crafts, Biking, etc.); and participate in a daily CIT group meeting with an Administrative Staff to evaluate the day.

At Camp El-O-Win, the goal is that EVERY camper has the time of her life and is safe as she maneuvers through being away from home, making new friends, succeeding at activities she has never tried before, being afraid of the dark, or being shy. CITs are to conduct themselves as counselors as they interact with campers, staff and parents, acting with kindness, empathy, understanding and the willingness to learn. Each is expected to be an asset to the camp, an enthusiastic member of the team, a shining example, a friend to the environment and mostly, it is expected that she will be true to herself.
